AROUND NEW WHARF CAMPSITE
No matter what your party or group likes to do on your camping trip, there is something for everyone. You can tailor your trip to be as relaxing or as adventurous as you like. Take a look at what we have to offer below.
RIVER ACTIVITIES
Campers have private access to the River Adur, which is only a short walk from the main site. There you can hire kayaks, canoes and paddle boards with The Kayak Coach Ltd (Please book separately, and in advance if possible!).
A little further down the path, we have built three sets of steps into the river for easy access. These are for the exclusive use of our campers, so you can use your own boat or board if you have them. We recommend some form of flip flop/sandals for walking to the river from the campsite. Please note it is a tidal river and you do enter the water at your own risk.
WALKING & CYCLING
If you would like a nice long walk with stunning views, you can stroll or cycle along the river banks and immerse yourself in the Sussex countryside and the rolling South Down hills. Following the river south you will reach a big bridge, which connects you to the (South) Downs Link. This route is ideal for both cycling and walking. The map below gives you basic directions.
Opposite the campsite down Spithandle Lane are the Bluebell Woods. We highly recommend a visit when they are in bloom, as they create a fairytale-like blue carpet throughout the woods. The Bluebell Woods are an easy, beautiful walk all year round. Footpaths can take you to the west side of Ashurst with its village pub, 11th century church and quaint primary school. Make sure to stick to the footpaths, as the woods themselves are private.
LOCAL PLACES
We are lucky enough to have numerous walks from the site, including a few lovely pubs along the river Adur and in the nearby towns of Henfield and Partridge Green.
Your nearest shops, a short 6-minute drive, are to be found in the pretty, historic village of Steyning (turn left at the main road) and Partridge Green (turn right at the main road). Both villages have a local Co-Op, butchers, and fish & chip shop to cater for all your basic needs.
BRIGHTON & BEACHES
We are a 35-minute drive from the seaside town of Brighton. There is always something happening in town and it's a brilliant place to explore. Brighton has the UK's most eccentric palace, famous Lanes (shopping, music & food), Brighton Pier and general funky vibes.
Or, if you would like the closest beach to sunbathe on, Shoreham beach is only a 20-minute drive away. It has a little fort to explore, which is great to climb and a large port where you can watch the boats come and go. At low tide there are miles of sandy beaches for building sand castles, splashing and swimming.
