OUR STORY
New Wharf Campsite is an independent family run campsite. Since the 1950s, our family has grown up on the farm, we remember the hot summer days where we would jump into the river to cool off and camp in the fields. We would pick cobs of corn from the maze we grew and cook it up on the fire. We would love to provide you with fond experiences and hopefully create some great memories for you and your family.
THE CAMPSITE
The campsite has gorgeous views of the Sussex countryside, including the national South Downs which is only a 5 minutes drive away! There is a beautiful array of wildlife around the campsite, including kestrels, bunny rabbits, geese, and a friendly kookaburra.

We have many facilities, including a mixture of natural composting or blue flushing toilets, hot showers and mains drinking water taps that are dotted all over the grounds, so you never have to venture too far to find one. As building a fire on the ground is not permissible, we are happy to rent out fire pits for the weekend, so you can sit around the fire chatting and cooking your own BBQ. We sell wood on the campsite for the fire pits and can provide free kindling if you need.
If you have any queries or needs during your stay, feel free to contact our warden who will be on site.
At New Wharf Campsite you can choose to stay in a beautiful shepherd hut. For a more comfortable glamping experience a shepherds hut provides full sized double beds with lights, USB charging outlets, outside sheltered gas cooker, and outside seating. For more information Click Here.
BBQs & FIRE PITS
Fires and BBQs are permitted but must be elevated off the ground as to not burn the grass. We offer firepits and sell wood as well as charcoal. Prices and booking of these are available when booking your pitch and/ or shepherd hut.
If you wish to rent a fire pit you will need to pre-book it. Pre-booked fire pits, wood, and charcoal will be placed on your pitch prior to your arrival.
you can purchase bags of wood and coal on site from the wardens. all wood and coal comes with free paper and kindling.
DRINKING WATER
Around the edges of the campsite there are taps connected to mains line water fully safe to drink and use for washing. The tap handles are sanitised twice a day.
KAYAK& CANOE RENTALS
Campers have private access to the River Adur only a short walk away from the main site, where you can hire kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and an instructor with The Kayak Coach Ltd (Please book seperately).
A little further down the river, we have built two sets of steps into the river for easy access, one set for going into the water and one set for getting out of the water. These are for the exclusive use of our campers whether you should fancy a swim or wish to use your own boat or board. Please note it is a tidal river and you enter at your own risk.
ECO TOILETS
We have plenty of quaint feather boarded toilets. There are a mix of compost and blue flushing. When camping your pitch will be designated a toilet. The toilets are checked and cleaned twice a day and we provide sanitiser for yourself to use before and after.
HOT SHOWERS
We have some lovely gas heated showers dotted around the campsite. Just like the toilets these are hand built on the farm with a beautiful feather board cladding. these showers are cleaned and checked twice a day.
