OUR STORY

New Wharf Campsite is an independent, family run campsite on the river Adur. Our family has grown up on the farm and we have many fond memories of hot summer days, when we would camp in fields, jump into the river to cool off, pick sweet, juicy blackberries from the hedgerows and cook sausages and sweetcorn over the fire. We would love to provide you with your own experiences and hopefully create some great memories for you and your family.

THE CAMPSITE

The campsite has gorgeous views of the Sussex countryside, including the national South Downs, which is only a 5-minute drive away! There is a beautiful array of wildlife around the campsite, including bunny rabbits, kestrels, buzzards, kites, geese, herons and a friendly Cuckoo bird.

We have many facilities, including a mixture of natural composting or blue flushing toilets, hot showers and mains drinking water taps that are dotted all over the grounds, so you never have to venture too far to find one. As building a fire on the ground is not permissible, we are happy to rent out fire pits for the weekend, so you can sit around the fire chatting and cooking your own BBQ. Wood for the fire pits, including a free fire starting kit, can be bought direct from the reception.

If you have any queries or needs during your stay, feel free to contact our warden who will be on site.

You also have the option to stay in a charming shepherd hut. For a more comfortable glamping experience, these shepherd huts are kitted out with full sized double beds, lighting, USB charging outlets, an outside under shelter gas cooker, and outside seating. For more information Click Here.

BBQs & FIRE PITS
BBQs & FIRE PITS

Fire pits and BBQs are permitted but must be elevated off the ground so as not to burn the grass. We offer fire pits and sell both wood and charcoal onsite. All wood and charcoal comes with a fire starting kit, which includes kindling, paper and a fire lighter. Prices are to be found where you book your pitch and/or shepherd hut.

If you wish to rent a fire pit it is best to pre-book it, as we only have a limited number available. Should you pre-book any of these items, we will see that they are placed on your pitch awaiting your arrival.

DRINKING WATER
Drinking Water

Drinking water/taps and cleaning stations are located all around the campsite. You won't ever have to go too far. The handles are sanitised twice daily by our wardens. DUE TO COVID, PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BOWL FOR WASHING UP!

KAYAK & CANOE RENTALS
Kayak

Campers have private access to the River Adur, which is only a short walk away from the main site, where you can hire kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and an instructor with The Kayak Coach. For more information or to make a booking please book separately. Click here:- The Kayak Coach Ltd.

A little further down the river, we have built two sets of steps into the river for easy access, one set for going into the water and one set for getting out of the water.  These are for the exclusive use of our campers whether you should fancy a swim or wish to use your own boat or board.  Please note it is a tidal river and you do enter the water at your own risk.

ECO TOILETS
Toilets

We have plenty of classic feather boarded toilets.  There are a mix of compost and blue flushing. When camping, your pitch will be designated a shared toilet in line with Covid regulations. The toilets are checked and cleaned twice a day and we provide sanitiser for you to use before and after use.

HOT SHOWERS

We have some lovely heated showers dotted around the campsite. Just like the toilets, these are hand built on the farm using traditional feather board cladding. These showers are checked and cleaned twice a day.
